Monkey - Poem by Mike Kosman

Hanging around on the bad side of town
My boots wet from yesterday's rain
The pusherman's late but I'll just have to wait
I need him to ease up my pain

I'm really a sight, ain't scored since last night
My God I'm beginning to shake
I really am worried I wish that he'd hurry
Ain't much more of this I can take

Had a good wife could have had a good life
I had no right at all to abuse her
She could live without money or sugar and honey
But couldn't stand a life with a user

Now I'm sitting here crying and feeling I'm dieing
I'd sell off my soul for some smack
My mind is so shattered that nothing else matters
But this monkey that lives on my back
