My Mom's My Pal - My First Bonny Gal - Poem by Naga Aparna Komarraju

You are my friend
My only friend
Him I told
You are my gold.

His eyes twinkled
With joy untold
His soul sparkled
With pride unfold

'This bond', he said
I'll always uphold'.
His heart he held
And boldly vowed:

'Come sun, come rain
Come storm, come hail
Your strength I'll be
In your love I'll spree
Friends are we, you and me
Friends we'll be for the world to see'.

Some pleasure, some pain
Some loss, some gain
Some ups, some downs
Some crowns, some frowns
All of this we saw, we did
And love was all that stood candid.

Arms around me at times
On my shoulder a few sometimes
Together we laughed
Together we cried
All we shared
Our hearts we bared.

Years have passed in ones and ones
Umpteen years in days and months
Time flew in leaps and bounds
Love grew in pounds and pounds.

Now, says he
Friends no more are we
Changed have I
Grown up am I

I look at him in all surprise
Uncertain what to surmise

Now he smiles
Now he winks
'Mom', he says
'You're my girl friend please'! '

I grin at him
And nod to his whim

Thirteen in all, my little doll
Jumps up saying to one and all
'My mom's my pal
My first bonny gal'.

This poem is for my thirteen year old son, who came up to me suddenly one day and said that I am no longer his best friend, 'coz now that he is thirteen, am his girl friend from now on. This poem is a small attempt for that undying love that he showers on me.
