Pearl Diver - Poem by Rudrani Sengupta

An expert pearl diver
Did I once meet in Cairo,
Who insisted he was
A connoisseur of minds
As well.

He desired to fathom me,
From skin to mind.

So I let this diver explore me
Unfurling my mind
Petal after petal.

Yet he failed to discover
The pearl in me.

It was not in my mind
But in my soul.
