Say Goodbye - Poem by Mara Dulce

The lies and deceit
Throw you every way
You're not sure which way to turn
Or where to go today.

You know someone
Loves and cares for you
You know someone is speaking truth
But right now you're not sure who.

They say he doesn't love you
And inside you're confused
You don't know if they are wrong
Or if you've just been used.

You want to tell someone else
About the pain inside
But you don't want to burden them
So your tears you try to hide.

Some day you'll get out of this misery,
You'll make your great escape.
You're counting down the days 'til then,
So be patient and just wait.

Because one day you'll see your chance,
You'll seize the moment and you'll fly,
You'll soar above the clouds like a bird
Who took her time to say goodbye.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Even though a few of the lines in this poem seem to be written about a boy, this poem was actually written about my parents who divorced early in my life.
