The Check Is In The Mail * - Poem by Scarlett Treat

'It's a lovely car, '
the salesman said,
'perfect in every way!
The tires are new,
The engine is, too! '
And I said,
'The check is in the mail! '

'It's the right house for you, '
the realtor said,
'perfect in every way!
The carpet is brand new,
the roof is, too! '
And I said,
'The check is in the mail! ! '

'It's the right outfit for you, '
the fasionista said,
'perfect in every way! !
The color is just right,
and it's not TOO tight! '
And I said,
'The check is in the mail! ! '

'He's just the right man for you, '
my (former) VBFF said,
'perfect in every way!
He's still single, never been married,
good looking, well-built, and NO children! ! '
And I said,
'Hey! The check is in the mail! ! ! ! ! ! '

WELL, I paid for the car...
a blown tire on the way home
Back in the shop the very next week!
AND I paid for the house...
It leaked after the very first rain,
and ruined that 'Brand New Carpet! !

I also paid for the outfit,
for it split
the first time I SAT,
And I paid for that 'perfect man, '
cause he had a 'special' friend! !

And all I can say is,
'OH, WELL! The checks are in the mail! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! '

* The check is in the mail - is American Slang, meaning
I haven't paid you yet, but I shall, just as soon as I get the
money...and then again, I may never get the money, so
you may never get paid! !

Yeah sometimes it's just to hard to wait for something that you feel that you need now, m but in reality you never really need it in the first place and why pay someone when all you can say is the check is in the mail and they give it to you before the money is in there hands. (Report) Reply

I read this one on the Forum Scarlett, and I thought then that it was a super write. Snappy and slick. Loved it. Well done.
