The Gifted Cage - Poem by Ula Goss

The canary sunrise hummed or horizon
Across the lands into the home of Poseidon
It's hues of captured sunshine
And flaming feathered strands
I reached and caught it in both my hands
The freshly brewed colour filled me
I became its shrine.

It spilled into my being
My soul, my mind, my core
Its essence overflowing
Rushing to my pores
Until this sunrise inside myself
Cascaded down my face
And I stood breathless
Caught in the embrace

I would've been trapped
In the pond stagnant euphoria
Until I was drowned
But you came
With a cage of freedom
Dangling from you open palm
And through patient feather-light acceptance
I learnt to take the sunrise from myself
And give it to the world

To invite them to creativity
To become the muse's property
And with this gifted cage
I handed life its meaning

So now to you the cage I give
The binding containment of
Our story and the power of its sunrise.
