The Girlfriend - Poem by Lawrence Beck

She calls to wish me happy birthday,
Voice refreshing to my ears as water
Chuckling in a stream.I'm thrilled.
In time, she has to go, and, once
She does, the ache which had grown
Dull becomes quite sharp again.
I'm glad she called, but she still
Isn't here.

Love is longing- to belong mentally as well as physically.
    Nice poem, Dear Lawrence.
