The Real Me - Poem by kelsey holts

hiding myself from the world
trying not to show people who i really am
for i do not want to go unloved
so i put on a mask made of plastic

the mask hides my emotions
it shows other people my other side
the one thats accepted by others
inside i curl into a ball
only wanting to be loved
and trying to break free

pushing through my mask
i try to be who i really am
being accepted is what scares me
so im always someone im not
yet now as i try to be me
i know that someone will love me
not for my mask
but for the real me
