A Beast Is About To Stir - Poem by Orlando Belo
Don’t think about going to the Lower Zone,
especially on your own.
There is something down there
that you ought to be aware,
and it may not be skin and bone.
Not one single person has ever come back,
from that cursed one-way track.
Teams have gone down and have never found
the people who have ventured down,
and even some of those never came back.
The extent of the zone has never been surveyed,
obstacles always prevent progress being made.
Extendable ladders, ropes, and sub-aqua equipment,
is required if you intend to make an attempt.
This is an open invitation to an early grave.
As your fingers touch the walls as you go,
you will feel the secretions as they flow.
On your descent you will feel a vibrating occur,
as though the beast is about to stir,
from the darkest, deepest, depths below.
There is of course something else you should know,
if you are indeed foolishly tempted to go below.
If you do return, you will never be the same again,
after you’ve escaped the clutches, and felt the pain,
of a beast that never until now, let anybody go.
