A Burst Of Faith

Rating: 5.0
Early winter's
late Sunday morning.
The sun shines cool and high.

"Bubbles, Daddy, bubbles, " Heini sings
as the doves welcome us to the yard.
A neighbour's bluesy music is
eerily twisted by the icy breeze.

He dips the bubble stick
and aims at the sky.
Rainbow top with hoodie
and brown corduroy pants.
Purple hand-me-down gumboots
courtesy of his sister -
His mouth forms a
twenty cent sized barrel
as his chest rises.
Long lashes lowered as he
squints concentration.

A first bubble appears, crowns
and then recedes.
Flashback: I caught you
as you fell into this life, my boy.
Heini's chest swells again.
Three are born
and slowly rise into the blue
twirling around each other like planet and moons.

Ring o', ring o' rosies -
glittering, kaleidoscopic -
dangle on the air
like jelly.

The trio dance higher.
Down on my knees next to Heini and
wrap him in one arm. We face the heavens.
Three ghost planets become our world
and then skeletal, like spiders' webs.

Instantly, they are gone.
Micro-shards rain down
anoint our faces
and reflect the sun
one last time.

Our gazing lasts
another moment or two.

"Another one, " Heini bubbles
as he dips the stick
while his round mouth
inhales again.

Sometimes it feels like the sun is afraid to shine, in winter... blowing bubbles with kids brings a burst of faith, of hope, of love.
A heartwarming and inspiring poem, Werner.....10++++++++++++++
