A Glimpse Of Her Heart - Poem by Fahima Mohideen
She sits on a grassy bank
‘Neath the cherry blossoms,
Make, she does a pretty picture
A pretty picture to paint.
She gazes out at land and sky
With the tinkling water beside,
And occasionally she does sight
The creatures frolicking in it.
We see her thus, from a distance,
But upon drawing near,
We see she gazes naught around
But into her own young heart.
Upon her lap, a slip of sheet,
Fluttering along with the breeze,
Write on it, she does
In moments of quiet revelation.
Her face a picture of wistful longing,
A hint of amusement at her wishes,
We peek around her shoulder
To glimpse a piece of her heart.
‘To share with, to cuddle
On a rainy day, to huddle
To like, to love, to cherish
To keep mine till I perish.
To laugh with, a mate
To share with, a friend
To cry with, a soul
To walk with, a companion.
Someone to hug,
Someone to kiss,
A shoulder to cry on
A small, soft body to hold.
I wonder, a spirit, is there, somewhere
With all this to call own,
How free and blissful it must be
To have all to be content.
Will it come, I wonder, a time
When I wake up a day, to find,
On sunny and in rainy days
All that a heart will need.
Will life deem me worthy
Capricious as it is,
To deserve to be happy
In this world that we live in.’
