A Prayer If Prices Rise - Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Nor hawkish nor yet downright dovish,
I’d call my policy nigh owlish,
Ever watchful and wise;
But why then prices rise?
Hawks soar ere descending to relish!

The RBI Governor, Raghuram Rajan would like to call his policy
at controlling inflation ‘owlish’, watchful and wise like an owl—
neither hawkish, nor dovish. But with finance ministry abdicating
its responsibilities on fiscal measures, can inflation be fought
solely on monetary policies? And what does the government do
on hoarders and profiteers? This way we neither get growth nor
curb greed.
