All I Want For Christmas - Poem by Karabo Ntjana

I don't want nice clothes for Christmas.
Although I'd appreciate if I got some.
I don't want nice shoes for Christmas.
Some people out there don't even have some.
I don't want nice jewels this Christmas.
I've never had those anyways.
Although I'd appreciate them.
That's not my wish this Christmas.
I used to cry for Christmas clothes.
And ice creams because its Christmas.
I used to seek candy every day.
Just because it's December.
I used to... But not this time.
Does Santa exist?
How come I've never seen one.
Can you be my Santa this year?
I promise I won't demand much.
All I want for Christmas;
Is something I never had to experience;
Most of this year.
2018 has been a tough ride for most.
Many had a chance to spot out the fake.
And make a change.
Hard work all days not a chance to rest.
Teenagers broken and families torn apart.
Dear Santa;
All I want for Christmas is reunion.
Reunite our thoughts and pieces.
Reunite families, this Christmas.
Reunite friends and loved ones.
Reunite nations in one peace.
Rolling down the streets holding hands.
Smelling nice, perfume on fire, love in the air.
Laughing and chanting because all are happy
Dear Santa;
All I want for Christmas is happiness.
Many are living in sorrow.
Without even diner to eat on Christmas.
One member there and the other there.
Stressful minds on Christmas.
Oh Santa;
All I want for Christmas,
Is happiness for all.
Dear Santa.
Do you exist?
Please stop having favorites.
Stop handing out gifts to the rich; leaving the poor.
Let's go to the streets of poor communities.
And make them have a pleasant Christmas;
Just this once.
If Santa doesn't exist;
Oh dear poets, can we be their Santa?
Homeless children.
Watching families walk down the streets in pure happiness.
Asking themselves; where's mine?
Can we be their Santa?
Can we spread out love and joy?
Without favorites but to all?
Can we be their Santa?
All I want for Christmas;
Is for all to be loved.
All I want for Christmas is reunion.
All I want for Christmas is happiness.
Make a soul happy.
Be ones Santa this Christmas.
That's all I want for Christmas.
Is it too much to ask?

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Christmas day is just around the corner. Many seek gifts which fade in a matter of time. This Christmas, make someone happy! This Christmas, show someone love. There are many children out there who never got to experience how receiving a gift on Christmas feels like. Be their Santa this Christmas; just this once.
