An Almost Perfect Poem - Poem by Bradley J. Lomeli

Photos of memories, of things that have passed,
A smile, a kiss, a blown out flash,
A picture snapped,
To take me back,
Now haunts me in my sleep,

I thought I knew, that it was you,
The love we shared, real and true,
A promise made,
Foundation laid,
Now to strong to fade away,

You laid me down and held me tight,
You took my hand in public sight,
A sparked desire,
Soon turned to fire,
Warmed my soul until scorched by a liar,

An echo in my soul,
A heart that's never whole,
Has left a thirst that's never full

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This poem is about trying to make a failed relationship work. It's about trying to fix someone and something broken with your love. It's about lieing to yourself for so long that the truth hurts when it finally falls apart. The broken structure and rhyme pattern of the poem is a representation of this type of relationship. It represents the lie of being something it's not. It tells the story, 'almost is never enough.'
