An Endless Story - Poem by Karimeen County

The waves in the sea
I never feel them
Filling my pores
Lashing against my skin
Touching me deep down
When I hide naked beneath
As you search for me

I never feel the salt that tastes me
And dries me when I’m back on shore
Limp and tired after you have taken me
Farther than where I can otherwise go

I never feel the warmth of the sun
When the waves engulf me
When the sands of time
And the mounds of my flesh
Accept your waves each time, high and low
Washing away the story it once wrote
And telling another untold.
When the sands of time
Make way for your footsteps to fall before mine
Gentle, strong and then firm
Saying this will never be washed away.

Or is it the shell you picked for me
That holds the secret of our moments of nothingness?
Echoing them as I keep it to my ears?
How does it know the rise and fall of your breath
I religiously believed was meant only for me?
Or is it simply the mystery of the sea?

The hot breeze of April,
She listened to our foolish thoughts
The kisses we wanted to give
And she came in between the caress
That was meant for my hair.
I could only melt
As you framed me with your finger.

The sexy curves of that tree…
We are not the first ones for sure
Neither are we the last
to use her bosom for our luxury
For she will definitely have lovers
Warming their hearts there
And when the rocks below fail to soothe the eye
The waves will whisper
This is the place that make moments feel like eternity.

How true the sea holds a million mysteries?
For it is not when I lie in it
That I know you are beside me
But when they come back to me
As I sip my black coffee…
When they come back to me a countless times
As I sit motionless recounting
The moments that flashed by
And I chance you again in my silly thoughts
I see you again searching for my warmth
And I truly know I want you
To be just the same
All over again.
Like the salty waves, surrounding me.
The whispering shell, echoing to me.
And the rhythm of my heart, defeating me.

The waves and you
It’s an endless story.
