Are You Okay? - Poem by Lynzi Berner

I worry
about your heart
more than
I worry
for my own

Cast away
anger
Look beyond
my own
heartbreak
to wonder

Are you okay?

Has this been
as hard for you
as it has been
for me?

The barely
surviving
the pain
of just getting through
each day

Do you regret
the fact
that we never had
a goodbye?

I'll never know
unless you tell me
but I know
that if you want to
you will

Still
I'll worry
about you

Maybe
one day
this will all
be a bad memory

Maybe not

Maybe
there will always be

the pain
of inaction

Right now
there are still
too many maybe's
for me to sleep

So I'll lay here
and think of you
as I recall
our memories

One
by
one

Savoring
each
letting
no smile
go to waste
then
I'll dream
and
in my dreams
I can still
hold you
and wipe away
each tear
we've cried
in this
paralyzing silence

Hush now
be still
dry your eyes

I'll be there
to confort you
when the lights
go out
