Awakened Heart - Poem by Alice Parris

Far better
It is
To have
Slumbered
Unaware
Than to
Have beem
Awakened
By a
Fleeting kiss...
O, love,
What torments
Await my
Fretfully
Awakened
Heart.?

I think you point out in one of your other poems that loving is a risk worth taking and, if we are to expect to love truely, we cannot avoid the fact that suffering and love are inescapably entwined. Love is associated with so many positive things and, unfortunately, many times ends up with other, undesireable things as well, but many happenings, even though later disappointing, also keep our hope alive for the true and lasting experience.
