Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
...
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
...
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
...
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
...
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:

The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends

The most important thing we've learned,
So far as children are concerned,
Is never, NEVER, NEVER let
Them near your television set -

Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.
Time that is moved by little fidget wheels
Is not my time, the flood that does not flow.
Between the double and the single bell
Of a ship's hour, between a round of bells
From the dark warship riding there below,
I have lived many lives, and this one life
Of Joe, long dead, who lives between five bells.
Deep and dissolving verticals of light
Ferry the falls of moonshine down. Five bells
Coldly rung out in a machine's voice. Night and water
Pour to one rip of darkness, the Harbour floats
In the air, the Cross hangs upside-down in water.
Why do I think of you, dead man, why thieve
These profitless lodgings from the flukes of thought
Anchored in Time? You have gone from earth,
Gone even from the meaning of a name;
Yet something's there, yet something forms its lips
And hits and cries against the ports of space,
Beating their sides to make its fury heard.
Are you shouting at me, dead man, squeezing your face
In agonies of speech on speechless panes?
Cry louder, beat the windows, bawl your name!
But I hear nothing, nothing...only bells,
Five bells, the bumpkin calculus of Time.
Your echoes die, your voice is dowsed by Life,
There's not a mouth can fly the pygmy strait -

When love was a question, the message arrived
in the beak of a wire and plaster bird. The coloratura
was hardly to be believed. For flight,
it took three stagehands: two
on the pulleys and one on the flute. And you
thought fancy rained like grace.
Our fog machine lost in the Parcel Post, we improvised
with smoke. The heroine dies of tuberculosis after all.

In a whole wide world
In a world the devil's taken,
She is praying there for you,
She is waiting home, unshaken.
Even if she sometimes scolds you,
Don't respond with bitter word,
Only she forgives forever,
No matter how much she gets hurt.

Gulls
Gulls, diverging from the water's edge,
Apologize for the music that stirs my soul,
...
To whom do we initially affiliate
With whom do we really associate
We are missing such a common aim
We adhere to nothing. What a shame

Music from another time
Begins to fill my ears,
And my mind gets flooded
With memories of then.

I ordered a bee box
The box is locked
It is dangerous
I put my eye to the grid

One road leads to two paths,
Destiny calls like a soothing symphony.
Your footprint longs for one,
Yet look far, your shadow is your companion.

My hands are gold,
My toes are strands of hair
Standing aback my ears.

A LOOK-346
When your lips quiver
And eyes begin to smile,
...
Behold the time is no longer near;
It is now. I have shouted, I have whispered,
And still, you do not hear.
Let the one with ears listen

(I wish) I was you once you said
(I wish) I was in the game of life
Much is expected but none proved worthwhile
You said I tried but under realized

In a room where silence clings to air,
I sit with shadows, sunk in stare.
Tears trace paths I've walked before,
Each drop a wish, each breath a war.

I dwell
In the absence
You left behind
...
If you die before me
I would jump down into your grave
and hug you so innocently
that angels will become jealous.

Indoors by technology, outdoors by speedy transport
I travel the world
Today in Japan, tomorrow in Rome,
Next day by an ancient civilization or in Hawaii or Coast Ivory,
...
The low lands call
I am tempted to answer
They are offering me a free dwelling
Without having to conquer

Beautiful is the 'thank you'
Wrapped with gratitude,
Offered to peace prone people
Who offer what is real-themselves

Once, entangled in the web of racist succubus;
Unruffled he declares before High Justice:

Love and lust are poles apart.
Lust is chaos, love is art.

"Come, pretty birds, present your lays,

The weary task is put away,
And I can sing and I can smile,
Alike, while I have holiday.
