Deep - Poem by Juge Sopczak

Dip fingers into it
Get them used to the texture.
Lower both arms at elbow length
into the cesspool called a soul.
Try to touch
the hidden sorcery of the heart
that burdens the subconcious mind
with nightmares of deeds done.
Search in that place where
no one dares to look.
Crawl in deeper
submerge the head
a shoulder
an arm
bend at the waist
covered in secret and shadow
as thick as congealed blood.
Move through the murkiness
that blinds the eyes
yet opens the senses.
Descend farther
as if being gently pushed
by some unknown force
past the dense darkness
of unspeakable thoughts
past the manufacturing of feelings
that molest the heart
as it lies there like a dead fish
thinking that the deepest part
has finally been reached-
Terrified
knowing
there is a long way to go.

This is the first poem I've read here so far that really grabbed my imagination. Love the ambitious and challenging use of language and imagery. Very nice! Will look for more of your work. (Report) Reply
