Elizabeth - Poem by Phillip Erb

When rooms fall silent,
lights go down and out,
I miss the almost undetectable
pitter-patter of four tiny paws
leeping onto the covers,
nuzzling my side, and
purring in my ear;
I miss the unlikely shadow
following my footsteps,
watching from the window
as I pull out of the drive, and
roll down the street,
out of sight.
