Freezing You Out - Poem by Carol Ross

I found
a moody young river
angrily churning
past ice-fringed rocks.
I sent
the confetti of your letters
swirling downstream
into soggy oblivion.

I wept
in the tangled roots
of an old willow
until all my tears dried.
I dropped
your memory in the black water
and saw it freeze
like your frozen heart.

I marvelled
as the glinting current
swept my mind
towards euphoria.
