He's Just Gone - Poem by Jai Wadams

It happened so quick,
you don’t know how.
why did he end this thing
between you two?
what brought it on,
what did you do wrong?
he said it was him, not you
but you know that’s not true.
was it what the other one said,
could he really believe that?
it’s not your fault, you did nothing wrong,
so why did he leave?
why did he turn and walk away
from the times that you shared,
the moments both good and bad?
he was your everything,
but now he’s just gone.

Your friends say he’s not
worth your tears, now that he’s gone
but in your heart, you know that’s not true
even though your head says it too.
you still love him despite the time,
can’t get his name out of your mind,
see his face in your sleep,
his memory still sharp and keen
cutting through your heart’s every seam.
you still talk to him but about new things,
the ease just isn’t there, not the way it used to be.
you want to run but need to be near,
can’t get this thought out, he’s your new fear,
your head wants to run but your heart tugs you to stay,
and to go, you don’t know which way.
he was there for you through family,
but now he’s just gone.

He’s there in your heart, haunting your mind,
you hate him but he’s just too fine.
you want him back, he knows you do,
but trust me, girl, you’re fine too
and he’s not right for you.
you deserve to shine, he’ll smother your light,
let him go ‘cuz now,
he’s just gone.
