Her Smile - Poem by Diantha Gray

His smile welcomes me from across the room
And with that same smile
He tells me about another lady
from across the room

Now I feel awkward
but I listen anyways

'We've never met, the two of you friends? '
he asks

I want to lie
to ensure a conversation

'No, I don't know her'
and he says to me
'that's too bad'

In the sweetest words
he defines her personality...

She's an obvious beauty

I'm feeling less of a woman
but my strange curiosity
It keeps me interested

I know where his heart is
and who it belongs to
Useful information

So...I wish him good luck
and excuse myself with an...
'I have to piss'

My ability to give a shit is gone,
and I work my way back

Across the room

I pass her

She is beautiful

One last look

I take notice

Her smile

It owns the room.
