Bharati Nayak

I Speak Not - Poem by Bharati Nayak

I speak not
As I feel
Speaking is not essential
Silence speaks for itself
Even eyes speak
Speak thousand words my quivering lips
Unsaid words travel million miles
Sun speaks
Moon speaks
Speaks the thunderstorm
When hearts meet
Mouth says no words
Only the closeness knows
How louder is the heart
When it beats
Beating the loudness of sea-roars.

Every time i meet a women as attractive as is Bharati's PH photo [which i think is REALLY the photo of an Indian Bollywood star] my heart beats so LOUDLY that the local police arrest me for 'disturbing the peace' (of the community) ! ! ! !
speaking IS essential to ME. and my wife is always complaining about it. oh well. PH members don't have to listen to my voice; how lucky they are! ! ! bri :)

''Silence must be heard'' a song by Enigma, comes into my mind as I read your poem; then, my poem, ''Silence speaks the most to me, '' I wrote many years ago, and my own experience of how Love leaves us speechless; a heart in love, can only express itself in silence. I have read this poem of yours many times, and each time, I realise, how much truth your verses express! (Report) Reply

Unsaid words travel million miles.. I agree, You have done it so elegantly.
The way heart beats in that moment of ecstasy is uniquely a rare one- what a nice comparison with the surging waves of the roaring sea.
    Brilliantly penned.
    10++++++++ for it.

    Dear Bharati,
I thought i must read this classic poem of yours before proceeding to other poems.
Undoubtedly, it is a brilliant poem.
The ancient sages of India hardly spoke.
They guided their students in silence through their deeds rather than speech.
You have echoed the the true voice of silence of the Rishi Munis.

We, dancers, speak not through our voice but through our Mudras and facial expressions.
So do the painters and other artistes.

A deep silence echoes louder then any words.
    Beautiful poem. :) 100
