Bharati Nayak

I Speak Not - Poem by Bharati Nayak

I speak not
As I feel
Speaking is not essential
Silence speaks for itself
Even eyes speak
Speak thousand words my quivering lips
Unsaid words travel million miles
Sun speaks
Moon speaks
Speaks the thunderstorm
When hearts meet
Mouth says no words
Only the closeness knows
How louder is the heart
When it beats
Beating the loudness of sea-roars.

    once a poet wrote
    I speak not
    I hear not
as both speech and hearing are NOT
    so it appears not
    or does it NOT
we all reading each other is naught
    is it then not
    ALL not
    OR better still NAUGHT

In the succeeding lines you say; sun speaks, moon speaks, and thunderstorm speaks! Your intention is very clearly reflected here that how we understand things that matters! This is just a poem of 16 lines so immaculately penned! It has the power to go all the way! I find pleasure reading it time and again! (Report) Reply

In a single word we call ‘reticence’ which is a kind of nonverbal behavior of communication may be one-sided but it can be understood from signs and gestures! You have very well expressed it through some parts of body like ‘eyes’, ‘quivering lips’ among others that are instrumental in transporting unsaid words million miles! (Part II) (Report) Reply
