I'm Not Your Poet

I'm not your poet

Life stole my smile,
Crushed my joy.

And I'm not that
Kind of poem....

Not the feelie
Rhymey,
Verse in timey,
Everything's
Gonna be finey,
Lyrically chimey,
Kind of poem.

No..., I'm not that
Kind of poem.

I'm not your poet.

Those adolescent,
Mother Goosey,
Dr. Suessie
Everything's
Foot loosey,
ARE NOT poems.

They're nursery
Rhymes and stories
Written to pacify
Children's naivete.

Happy-go-lucky,
Everything's plucky.
Nothing's gonna
Be sucky-
Type of stories
Read to the purity
Of the uncorrupted.

Children who
Should believe
Starry starry night
Everything's going
To be all right.

When in fact,
They are
Jack be nimble,
Jack be quick-,
Oftentimes words
Are used to trick.

No,
I'm not that kind
of poem...

And I'm not your poet.

But I think I use to be.
Or least, could have been.

(Read 'Helen' and you'll understand)

...and then the rest of life happened.
