Let Death Come And Set Me Free-Boatpeople

Rating: 5.0
Beyond the friendless seas the sun sank bringing night
When it rises tomorrow will I see the light?
A wretched refugee born in a holding camp
A place of hopelessness, a place filled with the damned
Hidden in an island away from the mainland
Waits for relocation but none offers their hand

My parents from the hamlet with great haste had fled
When the city fell they knew much blood will be shed
But their painful journey had ended up in vain
No countries wanted the old, unskilled or the maimed

Refugees- For those who did not make it
Susan Williams 16 June 2016
You are to be commended for writing this series of poems on the travails of the refugees from war-torn countries who seek a safe harbor. I cannot think of more worthwhile poems to write, loke. I like the restraint you show- you do not repulse by too much verbage nor by using over-blown phrases. You have the wisdom to let the personal stories of these people bear the message. Well done, well-deserved 10.
