Limiting Labels - Poem by Kelly Kurt

No one is born a Pakistani or an American
You are not born a Catholic or a Hindu
No elite or untouchables
No one is born as any man-made classification
We are all just born
Blank slates, unrealized potential
As soon as that symmetry is broken
With artificial categorization
All hell lets loose

I love this, Kelly! I would call you a great poet, but I know you don't like labels... (Report) Reply

Thank you. As soon as you apply just one label, everything else is taken as secondary at best

    1 person liked.
    0 person did not like.

I recall in the 1960s the futurist Buckminster Fuller wrote a book called I AM A VERB, NOT A NOUN, He was affirming a similar point to yours in the 21st century. Nouns turn things and people in fixed entities, closed systems, no change desired or permitted. But a verb is always moving, identity is fluid, multiple, changing. the GOD concept is very noun-ish; unless it becomes a form of immanence, wherein everything is divine, everyone is a creator, every event is sacred. You are a wise and learned man, Daniel. Fluid. What I am is all the dynamics of the instant

Through this small poem you have made a very emphatic statement against our partisan ideologies and narrow-mindedness which is at the root of most of our conflicts.

I do not like labels. So often, they pigeon-hole a person

Even being labeled as a poet is limiting. I write poetry, I am not just a poet

All take birth as human being. They follow religious path for reaching their ambitions. All human beings are equals and Earth is our mother land. Very finely drafted interesting poem.10 (Report) Reply

what is our true essence undefiled?
    who would know that?
can we return to the open state?
    I believe so
