Luminous - Poem by Kathleen Pastrana

that’s how I would describe
the way your face lights up
when you tell me about your adventures
in foreign beaches or in local streets;
the way your voice can illuminate the rest of my day
as if sunlight radiates through my TV screen
when you greet Mindanao good morning;
the way the fireworks in Bulacan glimmer in the sky
on New Year’s eve,
which if you’d let me, I’d take you there to see;
the way headlights are reflected on your dashboard
as I sat just a breath away from you,
there was darkness and there were stars,
street lamps, traffic lights, and speeding cars,
all incomparable to your eyes,
shielded with glasses and frames,
yet still a million times more
