Mud Slide - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

I swam in the murky waters
Of the river Jordan
In strokes of anguish
A dead body
In a journey to another
Then there was that mudslide
That pushed your eternal soil in my path
Even in those turbid waters
I could see you
Your muddy silhouette
That swam towards me
Take me to Jericho
My promise land
That withstood an eternity of time
I want to feel secure in your arms
To be invincible at my most vulnerable
Then I will know
That my life will have a purpose
No, not in my road to Damascus
I am Saul not Paul
Standing my ground and planting my seeds
In the last frontier
No desserts nor valleys but the eternal waters
Look where the mudslide brought me
My timeless Jericho
Your arms my love
