My Fault - Poem by Laura Dunne

the raindrops hit the rooftop
as i speed through changing lights
i'm running from an image
replaying in my mind
it's the day i realized
you didn't love just me
now i'm forever gonna see

you holding her so close
the way you once held me
listening to her sing
cause i was too ashamed
and the time you kissed her
cause i wouldn't let you
and now i've come to see
i can only blame me

i'm pressing on the break pad
pulling into a rest stop
tears falling down as i curl up in my seat
and i can't believe it's true
it's not because of you
it was only because of me
and now i see why

you held her so close
the way you once held me
listened to her singing
i was too ashamed
and when you kissed her
cause i wouldn't let you
all these things added up to be
caused by only me
