Nights With Beautiful Strangers - Poem by A.j. Binash

On a random night
Where mystery was indulged
In the search for more alcohol

We sat on your floor
Cross legged
Yawning cigarette smoke
And listening to Jack Kerouac
I recited along
And you said
"Shhh-I've never heard this before"

I felt a great pride
In remaining silent
Watching your eyes glint
Off the dimmed lamp light
Admiring how an alcohol glaze
Gave your pupils a unique character

When the poem ended
The words clung to the air
The energy advanced our bodies

I think of that night often
As much as the alcohol
Will allow me to remember
