The Shadow Of Yesterday - Poem by Mara Dulce

I'm running in the darkness
Through the pages of my life
Trying to escape the strife,
Trying to get by.
The monster that I'm running from
Will never, ever leave,
It only grows, and grows, and grows
With every chance it sees.
Today it is larger than
It was the day before
And while I keep losing ground
It's only gaining more.
What is this monster,
You may ask,
Of which I'm so afraid?
It is the monster of my past-
The shadow of yesterday.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

I wrote this poem because I kept being reminded of some of the foolish decisions that I made while I was away from the Lord.

Good depiction of fear of the past, the shadow of yesterday which has no substance. Fear is a bunch of sinister shadows, often a magnified reflection of something small, which interferes with one's hope and rational view of the present and the future. An insightful piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned with conviction. Thanks for sharing Mara. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON. (Report) Reply
