Tortoise Shell - Poem by ERI CGP

Fat and lazy
Uninspired, crazy
A shameless parody
Just standing frozen
Taking the blows from
Nemesis real and fanatical
Praying that it will wake me up
Had paradise in my hands
It was going to be a story
That could never be matched
But fell victim to needless distractions
Making irrelevance who’s time in the sun
Had long passed into a superhero
Who held all the cards
As I’m trying to pick the shards
Of broken glass from my skin
The bastards may have won the battle
But I’ll win the war.

Shameful, doubtful
Prancing above a minefield
Giving power and all my strength
To a past that will never find absolution
Or a cure but it can be arrested
So much to learn from
But I remain chained in shackles
Lord, I just yearn to have the last laugh
But I know the final judgment
Is in your hands
In your time.

Can I get it back?
With a head on straight
Faith in God restored
Treating my body like a temple
There is a way out
But its gonna take sacrifice
How sweet it will be
When I’m safe in the warmth of the sea
And the foes get their due
One down and one to go
In the meantime
Let’s pull it together
I’ve weathered the storm
My fate has not been sown
Time to reap the benefits
Of a long time in the tomb.
