White Lies - Poem by Romy Goodfellow

I tell you what you want to hear
Not what I want to say,
I tell you what you want to hear
Even if it’s not the truth.

‘That shirt looks good on you’
Even if it doesn’t
‘Thank-you for the present’
But I’d rather play with the box
‘He’s just playing hard to get’
But everyone knows he’s not

Sometimes white lies are better than the truth,
But only in small doses
Other wise you get into a tangled web
Never to return again.
