Your Old Favourite Song (By Alecssa Ray)

I believe I stopped liking music
as much as I did
once you broke me into
a dozen little notes.

You left,
or more accurately,
you left after I
kicked you out.

I realized quite early on,
you weren't the one to break me.
I was the one to break myself,
by making you leave my life.

I used to love music.
You'd always show me your favourite songs,
and we'd laugh and sing along,
and I'd listen to them when you were gone.

And then,
you were gone.
And you took every single
happy tune with you.

And I grew to hate music.
And I grew to hate,
though the love I had for you,
made me burn for you.

I grew chaotic,
reckless,
impulsive,
indecisive.

I lost my tempo,
my balance,
my rhythm.
I lost you.

My everything.
I lost my everything.
The very world I could hold
in my own two hands;

just like how you held your guitar,
with which you played the same tunes
that calmed me down when everything
around me was going wrong.

Chaos.
And grief.
You inflicted so many things upon my life
without knowing you ever did.

And to this day,
three years later.
I still listen
to your favourite song.

And though you're no longer
the person you were
when I first
loved you;

I hold your hand,
and I image yours around my waist,
slowly dancing close together,
to your old favourite song.
