A Man Without A Heart

A man without a heart
lives in my heart.
I found him there
the day I passed a man
with a begging cup.
He doesn't see the garden
greening here or care;
he revs the engines
of his muscled chambers.
He drowns out the birdsong
from everywhere. His tread
marks leave their score there.
