A Requiem For A Leaf - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

She descends
From her lofty perch
An auburn leaf
Paddling to and fro
To the gushing valor
Of the pouts of Aeolus
Like a catamaran
Buoyed by the ripple of the tide
Serenading the eyes of nature
As bevies of butterflies swarm
Fluttering their gossamer wings
As they try to lift her waning spirits
Reminiscing the serenity of her sanctuary
The abode of her shelter
Free from the furor of the surging torrents of Aeolus
Their divan of love
That flourished
Like the union of Aurora and Ra
At the advent of dawn
Oh the beauty of nature
Butterflies parting with a thanksgiving prayer
A requiem offered to the soul of a leaf
As she embraces her autumnal fate
