A Village Pond Poem by Dr Dillip K Swain

A Village Pond

Rating: 3.5

After the school hours
In sizzling hot summer days
A dozen of boys
Naked dives
In childish joys
Whirling the pond
In dhib dhab sound
From all corners
And a bearded old man
From a wooden chair
Umpiring the play
Cheering to encore

Time is fleeting
The pond is dead
A pile of sand
Asleep in its bed
The old umpire
No where around
The pond is thirsty
Water is not found

Sad, so well expressed we feel the emptiness that the poem surrounds. Well, done my poet friend. Thank you so much for poem read,21st Century (What a mess!) we live in now. Your comments for me are happiness. I respect your judgment and your sincere kindness, is the best! Be well.

The fleeting nature of Time leaves one overwhelmingly sad. How a place that is full of life and noise turns into a barren deserted place is painted with great depth. Time is cruel. It takes away so much. Amazing!

And what all we now miss. Is it our fault or..... difficult to define.
