Contrapuntal - Poem by Andy Brookes
I awake to a Bach partita
ringing in my head
its rapid notes play seamless
blending into the morning light
like a love poem for the lonely.
Bach at his coolest
a ripple across the centuries.
leaping into the present
to fall like gentle rain.
or drift on summer air.
The notes ascend in sunrises
or a glissando of scudding clouds
a mercurial metrical metre
burrowing into the soul
inscribing the heart.
Kick starts my day
