Double Your Money - Poem by Linda Bella Wassermeister

Would you like to spend fifty dollars
and get back a hundred?
I'll tell you how you can.

First of all, you have to live in
the United States of America.
Only U. S. poets are eligible

to win the cash prize. Kim Barney
has a contest with a one hundred
dollar cash prize, and I know

the answer! It is his September 2018
contest, and it has never been solved!
I would turn in my answer, but I

can't get the money for it, because
I am living in Canada. I already
solved his May 2017 contest, which

had gone unsolved for two years plus,
and all I got was the "GLORY". I
already have more glory than I can spend.

So, here's what you do: just send me
your credit card number, and I will make
a fifty-dollar purchase or withdrawal

on your card, then I will tell you the
answer to his contest, and you can
collect the one hundred dollars!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
If you would fall for that, you would
fall for anything! Never give out

your credit card number like that.
The person who gets your number
could run up thousands of dollars

worth of charges. Instead, just mail
me the fifty dollars in cash. Hah!
Seriously, though, I really have

figured out the answer to his contest.
I will wait a bit longer to give you
more time before I win more glory.

As LeeAnn says, you are a funny gal, Belle.
My friend Hank Beuning told me that you had posted this.

I had about given up on my May 2017 contest when you finally solved it, and now you say you have solved the September 2018 contest. I say, prove it by sending in the answer! (I don't doubt you at all, but if you are the one who solves it then I won't have to give out the cash!)

    Update:
Belle did indeed have the answer to my September 2018 contest. She sent it in the day before she posted her poem " Farewell" .
    Belle, you will be missed!

I second Leeann's comment, and though I will not give my credit card number I will give a 10! (Report)Reply

Thanks, Carl. No, I don't want your card number. Just send the cash! Oh, sorry, as a Canadian, you don't qualify either! Oh, well, just send me the cash anyway!
