Funny What Is Remembered - Poem by Lauren B Called

We sat there us two
Statement and reply
The imperfections I do
His also supplied
But none of it mattered
Nothing would change my mind
The truth of the man before me
An inescapable surety to be learned in time

His painted rock of endearment
Communion in a styrofoam cup
Talk unnecessary
When sitting near felt enough
Wanting nothing more than that
Inside screamed please just let me stay
Way past appropriate
Feeling a hundred different ways

Across from him
Unlike the first time
Same tree in between
His reasoning kind
Never one like him before
Has never been since
Funny how I regret
Not having first offered him the mint
