Girlhearts - Poem by Rajashri Saphia Singh

the lines form
the rain drips
as the cold bites
while i'm seated inside
i'm far away from home

the line blurs
the faces smudge
we're climbing the bridge
for my eternal being

the bar streams
i'm staring hard
excluding the blue and green
my world is small

i concentrate harder
and my heartbeat forms
blurred by the rain on my window
supported by the motion of those bars

heartbeats gain feet
the rain cripples
and cringes within
as my heart wave forms

the rain washes away
there's no more droplets
the bar straightens
my heartbeat deadens
it's one straight line

but it's just not my heart
it's my mind and soul as well
no matter how near home is
my shell keeps me away
and i'm always astray
no path to regain
no part of my existence
it's just those words that play
