Give It Away - Poem by Kelly Kurt

I longed for happiness
It came not
I wished to be loved
It eluded me
I wanted comfort
None came

Then
I gave these all away
And got more in return

Thank you, sir. I have lived this truth for my entire life.

This is a succinct moral lesson. Your poem would only be damaged by further words. They would detract from the purity of the message. This is not one of the Short Forms technically but in spirit this is a haiku, that is, it fulfills the spirit of the haiku, which to make a large statement through implications out of just a few words. There is a remarkable clarity behind this poem, and that makes the message even more personal and rewarding. (Report) Reply

I sometimes reread and am tempted to add or edit, but many times, less is more. Thank you for your kind and generous comments
