Landfall On The Shore

In a time when nothing of the cherished kind
gets us much further along, I freak out
and flash on that winter when school

being over for the year, my uncle and I lambs
set out wilding along the pleasant drift of days,
relished the scenes of long-legged cranes

and blue-chested kingfishers on white lilies
in the swamp darker than the eyes of a crow;
