Let Go - Poem by Peggy Dotson

it don't have to be so hard to let go of the past
when there's something better in store
all you have to do is let her hand go
and i'll be waiting on the other side of the door.

you can't enjoy what the future has
if you keep holding on to the past
there could be something meant for you and me
all you have to do is let the past be.

we can't see if we have something special
if she's there riding along
i won't feel like a third wheel
because tha'ts just wrong

one is us is gonna have to get off
the ride that is made for two
what is now you, her and me
was supposed to be me and you

i understand you have a past together
a history that is so strong
but something's not right between you two
that makes you leave home
if you sit there and think about it
nothing is gonna change
even after i am gone
things will be the same

what i want for you is to be happy
even if that means with someone else
although i wish that it could be me you would spend your life with
only you would know yourself.

i love you and i think i always will have a place for you in my heart.
