Maybe If Mama Loved Us More

Maybe if mama loved us more my youngest sister wouldn't put a finger down her throat after every meal
Maybe if mama loved us more my left arm wouldn't be full of scars
Maybe if mama loved us more my eldest sister wouldn't marry a guy who is just like my dad
Maybe if mama loved us more my middle sister wouldn't carry the weight of the world on her shoulders
Maybe if mama complimented me for once I wouldn't turn to guys for attention and care
Maybe if mama complimented me once I wouldn't stare at the mirror and physically try to make my face symmetrical
Maybe if mama knew being a mom is so much more than doing our laundry
Maybe if she knew pushing us away every time we came in for a hug would untie another thread of the quilt that's keeping us sane
Maybe if she asked why am I angry all the time instead of assuming I am unbearable to talk to and my attitude is a part of my personality
It is not
My personality is so much more
I am the way I am for a reason
If only my mama would ask
If only mama could love us more.
Maybe If Mama Loved Us More
