Nature 1 - Nature Teaches Us - Poem by Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Let us always remember,
We don't own nature,
Nature owns us.
We cannot govern nature,
Nature governs us.
We cannot teach nature,
Nature teaches us.
We cannot prod, prick or pain nature,
Nature can meddle, mess or confuse us.
We cannot change the environment of nature,
Nature can change the environment around us.
We cannot entirely destroy nature,
Nature can destroy completely, any one of us.
Let us bow down in humility to worship nature.

A Sonnet

Dear Geeta your poem is beautiful. Nature does not belong to us. It was created for our enjoyment but not for our ownership. It belongs to its Creator and we are stewards thereof. I enjoyed your poem penned with expertise.10++ (Report) Reply

e.g. genetic engineering (before that, geneticists cross-pollinating to produce new varieties of vegetables to be more productive, etc) . // dams and reservoirs to harness water power (before that waterwheels to grind grain into flour) // cutting of vegetation around buildings to help keep fire away // pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, antibiotics, etc.

the list goes on. ah, one of my favorites: birth control! ! but also artificial insemination.

    (2) The nature, in turn, shows the man his puny status. Thanks, Geeta ji. I quote a few lines:
    Nature teaches us....
We cannot prod, or pain nature
Nature can change the environment around us.
    We cannot entirely destroy nature,
Nature can destroy completely, any one of us.

The problem with man is that he thinks he is so powerful. With so full of arrogance, he is not able to see himself, as you rightly put it, his own puny status.
Thank you, Rajnish ji, for your views, so full of wisdom.

    (1) That is what the man has not been able to understand till date. For this, the arrogance of man is solely responsible. Instead of taking steps for conservation of nature and environment, the man has always been trying to destroy their fragile balance. (Report) Reply

I completely agree with you Rajnish ji that man is solely responsible for disturbing the Eco- balance of Nature Thank you so much for your understanding this grave issue so well..

The problems of man started when he started remaining away from the nature. A great poem by Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna Menon, (Report) Reply

Awesome write Geeta....but I very often doubt why we are not part of the nature around us....is it that it is just our mere assumption or is it that it is our nature to contradict everything...I have not found a right answer for this so far....your poem is thought provoking in this regard...thanks and God bless you (Report) Reply

Thanks a lot Indira Ma'm. We too, are a part of nature, but a tiny entity. we have to learn to tune in with all aspects of nature to understand the Unity in diverse forms of Nature.
