Once...But Never Again Poem by Bryan Taplits

Once...But Never Again

Never again will I see such a dream
In a brook that traversed space along my way,
To see her reclining was inviting, amazing,
So I dipped toe in the brook where she lay.

There I found waters much too deep
And foaming, those waters were much too chill
And deep was this creek-with banks much too steep
Making my advances a journey uphill.

My dream was too confusing to control
And I saw my brief perspective soon out of sight-
Yes, she was what I had seen-but no longer resided in my dream,
As she bobbed-and headed towards the night.

I regret she avoided my quick grasp
I'd have held her forever, till my doom,
Yes, because my dream had escaped-no more would I slake-
From this brook which had tiptoed away-much too soon.
