Only A Kiss - Poem by Lynzi Berner

There it goes
that long lingering
look

The one that
speaks a thousand words
at volumes
that sound can't match

My stomach
flips
knees
go weak
I hold
my breath
I wonder
can you hear
my heart beating too?

Your hand
brushes mine
Did you mean
to do that?
You smile
I smile
we both
shift in our seats

Palms
sweating
Mouth
dry
Thoughts
racing
Your hand
my face
Time stops
your lips
brush mine
heart
beating
so hard
or
is that
yours
we melt
together
then slowly
pull apart

Your eyes
my soul
we both
shift
nervously

It was only
a kiss
