Starburst - Poem by Michelle Freeman

Lights exploding
The garden’s falling
And I’ve spilled paint all over the floor
I’ve spilled paint just like a little girl
I’ve spilled paint like a child learning colours
I’ve spilled it and spilled it all over the floor

Sunshine rising
But moonlight’s shining
And I’ve lost my ability to see anymore
I’ve lost my ability for something I was born with
I’ve lost my ability with eyes that seem sightless
I’ve lost it just lost it and can’t see anymore

Lights exploding
With wild birds singing
And I’ve finger-painted all over the wall
I’ve finger-painted on a canvas so new
I’ve finger-painted, a picture that is true
I’ve painted and painted all over the wall

Sunshine rising
With asphalt a-steaming
And I cannot seem to reason anymore
I cannot seem to follow the dictate
I cannot seem to render this helpless
I cannot, I cannot be reasonable anymore
